Lord Baltimore Cake

Lord Baltimore Cake is a classic gold cake that is very delicious!

1/2 cup butter

1 cup sugar

5 egg yolks

1 whole egg

2 tsp. vanilla extract

1 cup milk

2 cups cake flour

2 1/2 tsp. baking powder

1/2 tsp. salt

Lord Baltimore Filling:

1 recipe Seven Minute Frosting

1/2 cup dry macaroon crumbs

1/4 cups pecans

1/4 cup chopped almonds

12 candied cherries, in quarters

2 tsp. lemon juice

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Butter and lightly flour two 8 inch round cake pans.

Cream the butter and slowly add the sugar, beating until light.

Add egg yolks and beat well. Add the whole egg, vanilla and milk and beat well.

Combine the flour, baking powder and salt, add to the creamed mixture, beating until smooth.

Spread in the prepared cake pans and bake 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near center comes clean.

Cool in the pans for 5 minutes before turning out onto wire racks to cool completely.

Divide the frosting in half.

Fold all of the Lord Baltimore Filling ingredients into half the frosting and use as a filling between two yellow 8 inch cake layers.

Use the remaining plain frosting to cover the sides and the top of the cake.
