Farmstead Split Pea Soup

This Farmstead Split Pea Soup is simple to make and tastes great!

8 cups water

16 oz. package split peas, rinsed and drained

1 1/2 lb. ham bone with meat

2 onions, chopped

3 leeks, white part only, chopped

2 stalks celery, chopped

1 carrot, peeled and chopped

1 cup dry white wine or vegetable broth-homemade recipe here

1 clove garlic, finely chopped

1/2 tsp. dried marjoram

1/4 tsp. dried thyme

salt & pepper to taste

Combine all ingredients except salt & pepper in a Dutch oven. Bring to a boil.

Cover, reduce heat and simmer for 2 to 2 1/2 hours or until peas are soft.

Remove ham bone and cool to warm.

Remove meat from bone and add to Dutch oven. Add salt & pepper to taste.

Serve in individual bowls and add Sun Dried Tomato Provolone Bread.
