Calzones

This recipe for Calzone is simple to make, you can always change up the filling to your own liking.

1 recipe Quick Pizza Dough or 2 13.8 oz. cans refrigerated pizza crust

1 recipe Italian Tomato Sauce or jarred spaghetti sauce

2 cups mozzarella cheese

1 lb. bulk Italian sausage or lean ground beef

Heat oven to 425 degrees. Spray two baking sheets with cooking spray.

In a large skillet, cook sausage or ground beef over medium heat, stirring frequently to crumble, until no longer pink, drain. Stir in 1 cup of  Italian tomato sauce and stir to combine. Set aside.

If using refrigerated pizza dough, unroll and cut in half crosswise, cut each section in half lengthwise. On baking sheet, press or roll each dough portion into 7 x 5 inch rectangle.

Spoon meat and tomato mixture and some cheese on one side of each rectangle. Fold dough over filling, press edges firmly with a fork to seal.

Bake 15-17 minutes or until golden brown. Heat remaining tomato sauce and serve with warm calzones.

If using homemade pizza dough, roll out portions of dough to 1/4 inch thickness, cut into 7 x 5 inch rectangles.
